Specific Responsibilities:

The Lead Innovation Engineer explores new innovation concepts for the watch (analog, digital and connected) category. You will take projects through the full process of ideation, rapid prototyping and consumer testing with the intention of integrating the viable innovations into the seasonal product line. In this role, you will collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups of designers, innovation partners and internal Product team members. You will gather directional insights to inform the innovation pipeline and present a vision to influence Nixon’s advanced products agenda and critical initiatives. The ideal candidate has leadership skills, a clear vision and is self-motivated to conduct research, form and drive projects and make strategic decisions based on data and consumer feedback. This role requires the ability to balance hands-on results with strategic and critical thinking to drive projects and collaborate with partners.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Integrate projects into the Innovation pipeline by uncovering new opportunities through user research and insights-gathering, new technologies and advanced materials.
  • Create and drive the new innovation strategy for various projects and collaborate with various stakeholder to define prototype requirements, estimated budget and project timelines.
  • Manage, implement and own research and design deliverables, including user insights documentation, conceptual models, user journeys/flows, visual designs, and prototypes.
  • Lead meetings with key partners; ensure that they meet the stated objectives and stay on agenda.
  • Manage the collaboration with development teams, and work to streamline workflows and processes for team success.
  • Facilitate meetings, conduct collaborative workshops, craft and make persuasive presentations.

Technical Skills:
  • Understand the end to end process of product creation process for digital and analog watches and other adjacent products.
  • Possess knowledge of materials and material properties used in watches, wearables and similar devices.
  • Champion the integration of regenerative materials and innovative manufacturing process to further advance Nixon’s sustainability goals.
  • Hands on manufacturing understanding; knowledge of equipment and machinery and other tools used in analog and digital watches and adjacent products.
  • Anticipate problems, facilitate solutions and address project issues in a timely manner
  • Innovation-mindset; creative, curious, observant, risk-taker, resilient, connected
  • Strong communication, influencing and presentation skills
  • Well developed business and process sense
  • Flexible, self-starter, motivated to continually learn and grow

Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical and/or Electronic Engineering.
  • Several examples of successfully launched projects that demonstrate strategic, conceptual and creative thinking
  • Minimum 10+ years experience in innovation design/engineering, prototyping or R&D is required.
  • A solid understanding and demonstration of human-centered design principles
  • Demonstrated ability to design and direct research activities, as well as to synthesize data into concrete recommendations
  • An expert understanding of the design and technology landscape what types of experiences are made possible by emerging digital capabilities
  • Ability to develop innovative design approaches to complex design problems
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as communicate and influence across organizations
  • Ability and passion to deliver premium solutions that do not jeopardize schedule and budget
  • Critical thinking skills to assess business opportunities and identify project objectives
  • An innovator approach with a propensity and passion for out-of-the-box thinking and ideation
  • Must be organized and able to switch rapidly between different projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in an independent fashion, solve problems, make decisions, and communicate effectively in difficult situations
  • Can work with grace under pressure and operate effectively and proactively in an ambiguous environment
  • Proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, KeyShot and modern prototyping platforms and tools
  • Ability to read and write user operational flow charts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience conducting internal/external user research a plus
